Behind the lens at The Narrative is Samantha and her team. Our style can be described as dark and moody, edited with a film look. We love working with non traditional couples that are adventurous, wild and carefree!
Sam has 15+ years experience as a professional photographer. She's a little bit awkward, and a lot creative. Obsessed with reflections, rainbows, golden light and leading lines. She specializes in capturing intimate moments and real emotions.
If your looking for someone to document your day as it unfolds, to create emotive portraits and to help guide you through this special time, she might be the one for you.
Sam is a global citizen and 90s baby with an old soul. If you loved Argh! Real Monsters, the Wild Thornberries, Sailor Moon, Totally Spies, Hey! Arnold, Avatar the Last Air Bender and the Sound of Music you will probably get along. If you like a good crime show, or sci-fi movie you might vibe. Sam is also an avid music lover. She still uses her iPod crammed with LimeWired tunes. Dubstep, Hip Hop, House, Grunge, and Drum & Bass she enjoys mixing music or going to a festival when she can find time. Dog Person and fascinated with sacred geometry, she can speak 3 languages - English, Hindi, German and is currently working on Indonesian.
Working alongside Sam is a dedicated team of talented photographers and videographers that she calls on if you need more than one photographer on your big day. Together, they capture stunning visuals that tell compelling stories and bring your vision to life.

We are based in Christchurch, New Zealand and there is no travel fee for weddings within 1 hour of the city.

We like being upfront and making things easy so have laid it all out for you. If you get through all of this information and still want to book or have more questions, we look forward to hearing from you :)
First - Send an email using the contact form. Please be patient with us, we aim to respond to initial messages within 5 working days. We are often busy shooting weddings and editing pictures which take priority during the wedding season.
Then we will arrange a time to have a video call to see if we are a good fit for each other. Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life so its key that we understand each other. There is no pressure if you decide to go with someone else. There's nothing worse than having someone you dont vibe with taking your picture.
If we decide that we would work well together, then we ask for a 30% or $600 non-refundable deposit. This means we block out your date to be available for you. Once the deposit is paid, we are locked in!
We will send you our special digital wedding magazine which is full of tips, hits and tricks that we have learnt across the years in making your day run smoother and is something you enjoy rather than rush through as well as a little thanks for booking gift.
This is *usually* your first time getting married, but we have been to hundreds of weddings and we want it to be the best day possible for you. We are also available via email anytime for anything you might want to discuss in the lead up to your day. Sometimes being the photographer can be a little like being a co-ordinator and we are happy to help in any way. One time, Sam had to sew a bride into her dress 10 minutes before the ceremony. She always comes prepared with her sewing kit now.
We also arrange a planning session. This can be done anytime from a year to 6 months out from your wedding date, ideally at your wedding venue. This way we can make a plan of attack for photos. Online or at the local coffee shop works too. In the planning session, we go over your timeline, key shots, special moments that need to be captured and it helps make sure all vendors and guests are on the same page with how things are going to run on the day.
If you booked an engagement shoot, we can do the planning session and images in one go. Engagement shoots are really worth it as we get to know each other better and you feel more comfortable in front of the camera on your wedding day. Alot of people feel awkward getting their picture taken, including us. We use a range of techniques to capture your real connection. It's a mix of posed direction and cues. Over the years, we have learnt ways to make couples love shine through and capture that connection in our photographs. Most of the time, you're laughing at us.
You pay the remainder of your fees 4 weeks before the event date. We understand budgets can be tight and do have some flexibility on this but please discuss with us well in advance. We can also arrange payment plans which are $200 on top of fees due to the extra admin. No images will be released until payment is made in full.
On the wedding day, we will turn up to the agreed location and time and stay for as many hours as you have booked. We would have gone over what we need from you during our planning sessions. Sometimes, weddings do run a little behind schedule so we dont charge if things run over time by an hour, after that we charge $350 per additional hour unless agreed earlier in the day.
After your big day
For Photos
- We aim to have 20+ edited images delivered within 48 hours for you to enjoy and share.
- We then go through the entire days roll and remove anything unusable, make minor adjustments and deliver every single image taken to you within 21 days.
- Once you have seen all the raw images, you choose 600 images for our special editing. We will add our signature style, remove objects, people, wrinkles, fix a smile, eye or hair) OR you can let us decide what the best 600 images are and make all the edits for you. This process can take up to 12 weeks depending on if we are in peak wedding season, and how quickly you make your selection.
For Video
- It can take up to 12 weeks to have video delivered.
Your final photos and video are sent to you on a USB. Unlike other photographers who hold onto their copy write, I believe that your photos belong to you. You are free to publish, reprint and use them as you please including for business or advertising purposes. I do ask your permission to share your images in my portfolio, but have no problem if you want to keep them private.
